With onlookers including doctors, nurses, patients and the chief executive of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, Caroline Walker, the train of over 70 HGVs arrived at the hospital for the 8pm round of applause.

The convoy set off from Chatteris and passed through villages en route to Peterborough.

The drivers contributed a minimum of £10 to take part, with other donations flooding in to total £16,000 raised for 'Over and Above', the charity of the local NHS Trust.

Organiser Danny Whitmore wrote on his JustGiving page for the action: "I am wanting to raise as much money as possible to give to the NHS at Peterborough district hospital to show our appreciation for all the hard work they have done and continue to do through such difficult times."
