Peterborough City Hospital has reassessed its rules on visiting restrictions following an increase in Covid-19 cases within the hospital and visiting for inpatients is no longer allowed, though some exemptions will be made.

The restrictions have been introduced today (October 22), and also apply at Hinchingbrooke and Stamford Hospitals, as a precautionary safety measure in the local management of the spread of the disease.

Dr Kanchan Rege, Chief Medical Officer for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Unfortunately as we are seeing an increase in the number of patients with coronavirus, which reflects local community figures too, it is necessary for us to reintroduce some visiting restrictions as a result.

"Our visiting policy is regularly reviewed, with safety always our top priority, balanced with our patients’ experience.

"We understand that this will be upsetting for our patients who were hoping to see their loved ones, however we do need to ensure that we are doing everything to minimise the spread of infection.

"We would like to thank everyone for adhering to our safety advice, and ask that everyone continues to do their bit by following national social distancing, face covering and hand washing guidelines, as these measures really do make a difference and help to minimise the spread of the virus."

Exemptions at the hospital include:

  • End of life care, where two people will be allowed
  • Caring/support in exceptional circumstances e.g dementia/anxiety/learning disability
  • Parents with a child
  • Birthing partner attending scans only, birthing partner in labour and birthing partners allowed to visit inpatient areas from 8am to 8pm.

For outpatient or Emergency Department attendances, a patient can be accompanied at the discretion of the treating clinician.

Visiting restrictions were previously relaxed in August, after the number of coronavirus cases within the hospital reduced.

If you have an appointment or are booked in for an operation/procedure at Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford Hospitals, you should attend as planned unless you're showing symptoms of coronavirus, in which case you should book a test here.  Follow public health advice at all times including washing your hands, wearing a face covering, and socially distancing.
