Coronavirus:All Peterborough schools to shut from Friday.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson and education Secretary Gavin Williamson have announced government decision to close schools across the country from Friday, in response to the coronavirus situation.

The education secretary, Gavin Williamson announced shortly, that all schools will shut across the UK from Friday, 20, March. This comes as the government is putting in extra measures to deal with the coronavirus crisis. The closure could last for months, however there is no clarity on it yet.

The education secretary also added, that a voucher scheme in place of free school meals might be put in place shortly.

All through this working week, many schools in Peterborough had announced complete or partial closure due staff shortages following self-isolation guidelines.

A press conference held by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson is ongoing and he is likely to issue further guidelines to members of public amidst rising pandemic concerns.

previously, the prime minister faced criticism earlier for not issuing complete school closures and a lack of efficiency is dealing with the pandemic. However, the decision has been taken to shut schools for all students except for children of key workers, and children who are vulnerable.

This announcement came shortly after Scotland and wales decided to close schools from Friday while Northern Ireland announced closure with immediate effect to deal with coronavirus.

During the press conference, he also advised people not to leave their children with older grandparents.

He thanked members of public for complying with the measures and said he “will not hesitate to go further and faster” in the days ahead, if the situation deteriorates further.

Peterborough Matters will be have all the updates on the latest developments following the coronavirus conference.
