Gallery: Peterborough Celebrates with Nene Park Festival

The Peterborough Celebrates Festival kicked off in style in the sunshine yesterday evening.

Yesterday was the first of three days of celebrations and thank you wishes for the people of Peterborough, in a new event at Ferry Meadows expected to draw 15,000 visitors..

The event has been organised by Nene Park Trust with support from Peterborough Presents, and features entertainment, activities and cultural attractions creating a festival for everyone to experience from Friday until Sunday (May 15).

More than 50 organisations have come together for a packed timetable of music, contemporary circus, theatre, creative workshops, have-a-go sports activities – from acrobatics to kite making, martial arts to dance – a children’s fun fair and world food and drink.

There was also the first showing of the Thank You Peterborough film featuring dozens of people and organisations giving thanks to those who had inspired or helped during the past two years of the pandemic.

Festival goers are encouraged to use sustainable transport options where possible, such as the Stagecoach Number 1 bus which runs from Queensgate to Orton Wistow. However, free car parking and various park and ride (bus and rail) schemes will be available for festival goers in the following places: Lynch Wood Business Park (PE2 6FY) and Railworld Wildlife Haven (PE2 9NR).
