However the squad is raring to go, and looking for new female players for all positions in time for the start of the 2020/21 season when the team returns to competing in the Sapphires League.
The curtailing of certain activities has changed the way teams have been training, but the Royals, usually a full tackle/contact team, have been hosting socially distanced ‘positional skills training sessions’ ahead of the season, which will start in September.
Tanya Dales is the Team Manager and chairperson of the team, which is based at the Peterborough Lions RFC ground at Bretton Park.
Tanya said: "These sessions started as soon as government and BAFA guidance allowed and are being held every other Saturday, 10-11.30am in Peterborough until the season commences. The next session is Saturday, July 11 and fortnightly thereafter.
"We have already had a number of interested women come along to the sessions and book in for the rookie days and it has been a fantastic atmosphere!
"We have two Rookie days booked in the diary for July 25 and August 22 which are open to anybody interested in coming along to see what the sport is all about!
"We can be found on Instagram as @ptownroyals or on Facebook as Peterborough Royals Womens American Football Team.
"We also have a dedicated Facebook group titled Peterborough Royals Rookies for those who might be interested and want to get involved, ask questions and join in with our weekly team fitness challenges that we have going on!
"All they have to do is just drop us a message via any of our social media channels and any member of our Front Office will be happy to help!"
