Three wins on the bounce have put a good feeling back in the Posh camp, especially fighting back against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night to win 2-1 after a brilliant second half display and two composed finishes from Sammie Szmodics.
Darren Ferguson would be looking to round-off a tremendous week with a victory against another fellow promotion rival Ipswich Town. This fixture was previously scheduled for December 19 but postponed due to a Covid outbreak in the Posh squad.
Team News and Predicted Line-up
Ferguson made two changes for the eleven that faced Charlton Athletic on Tuesday, as the suspended Nathan Thompson replaced Niall Mason and Idris Kanu returned to right-wing back.
Joe Ward has started to regain full fitness, starting in Posh previous two fixtures before Charlton. However, he will miss the trip to Portman Road on Saturday after suffering a small injury, but should return to face Bristol Rovers.
After a slow start to the 2020/21 season, Sammie Smzodics is beaming with full confidence now, scoring four goals in two games, and will return to one of his favourite grounds after netting twice at Portman Road last season in Posh's 4-1 victory over Paul Lambert’s side.
Despite three wins on the bounce, Ferguson confirmed that he could look to make a few changes with a hectic schedule on the horizon.
Predicted Line-up: Pym; Burrows, Thompson, Beevers, Kent, Butler; Taylor, Brown, Szmodics; Dembele and Clarke-Harris
Despite a decent start to the 2020/21 season, going unbeaten in their opening six games, Ipswich Town have endured a mixed couple of months, and now sit 8th in the table, four points behind Posh with a game in hand.
Paul Lambert’s men have won three times in their previous five League One fixtures, including a narrow one-nil victory over strugglers Burton Albion. Their home form hasn’t been exactly great either, winning only once in the previous five games and losing to promotion rivals Hull City, Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic.
Former Posh man Gwion Edwards recently return to Town’s starting eleven and is likely to start today against Ferguson’s men. The Welshman has been one of Lambert’s influential players and is currently Ipswich Town's top scorer with five goals and three assists in all competitions.
It was a day to remember for Posh supporters when these two sides last met at Portman Road.
Ferguson’s men thrashed the Tractor Boys 4-1 in January 2020, which saw Posh leapfrog Ipswich Town into third place.
Ivan Toney opened the scoring from the penalty spot in 23rd minute before Szmodics nicked the ball off goalkeeper Will Norris and tapped home into an empty net.
Siriki Dembele made it three after cutting it onto his right-foot before placing it beyond Norris, and Szmodics added a fourth in the 74th minute. Ipswich Town pulled a goal back after Ollie Norwood converted from the penalty spot.
That victory was Posh's first win over Ipswich Town in nine years, last beating the Tractor Boys 7-1 in August 2011.
Last five meetings

Posh 2-2 Ipswich Town – Aug 2019
Posh 0-0 Ipswich Town – Mar 2013

Confidence will be brewing in the Posh camp after three wins on the bounce, showing the goalscoring touch and looking defensively strong as well as having Szmodics back in-form. I believe Posh will grind out a result at Portman Road and continue their fantastic start to 2021.
