Community sport in and around Peterborough has received a boost from BGL Group, which is sponsoring 50 local sports teams this year.

The Group is backing 34 football teams, six cricket teams and four rugby clubs, two hockey clubs, a gymnastics club, a cycling team, an ice hockey team and a bowls club over the next 12 months.

Peterborough United Football Club is the largest sports club to receive BGL’s ongoing support, with the Group set to sponsor the club for the next three seasons. It also sponsors the family stand at London Road and the Peterborough United Foundation.

Caroline Raines, Director of Communications, BGL Group, said: "Making a difference to the community is part of our ethos. We also recognise the many benefits participating in sport has for people of all ages and abilities which is why we’re delighted to continue our support for grassroots sports."

Stuart Sharp, Chairman of Orton Rangers Football Club said: "BGL’s support has made a huge difference helping us with kit for our men’s, reserves and juniors. It means everyone looks the same and feels part of the club family in their kit and we’re able to continue to keep costs down and make being part of the club as affordable as possible."
