Figures obtained from the Police Data website show there were 2,307 reports made in August.

This is a 7.2% decrease from July's statistics, when 2,489 crimes were reported in the Peterborough area.

July saw further lifting of lockdown restrictions, with pubs and restaurants opening up across the city, and bringing more people into town centres as a result.

Almost all categories of crime decreased from July to August. Antisocial behaviour decreased by 9.6%, with 498 reports made. Drug crime decreased from 86 reports in July to 45 reports in August; a drop of 47%.

The number of reports of violent and sexual crimes went down by 2%; burglary and robbery decreased by 27% and possession of weapons offences dropped by nearly 40%.

Reports of theft increased by 6.2% from the month prior.

A police spokesman said: "There are a number of reasons we tend to see changes in crime trends. These include targeted police activity to drive down offences or increase reporting, or changes in the way in which crimes are recorded. Over the past couple of years we have made it even easier for people to report crime, through the introduction of online reporting and web chat facilities enabling people to report crime at a time convenient to them.

"As lockdown restrictions start to ease, we continue to work hard to respond to all incidents promptly, whilst also ensuring members of the public adhere to government guidelines. We continue our efforts to ensure that we protect the most vulnerable members of our community, while tackling our most dangerous offenders."

Outcomes such as charges and arrests are not included on this map.
