Cllr John Howard and Cllr Mohammed Farooq have been pushing for a 20mph zone in Hampton East and Hempsted for over a year, and after working with the Highways Officers at Peterborough City Council, a consultation will begin soon regarding the plans.

Residents shared their concern about speeding many times over the past year, and now the first step to installing the speed limit has been taken.

The proposal will include a 20mph speed limit on all roads within Hampton Beach, Hampton Gardens, Hampton Water and Hampton Woods.

In Hempsted, the proposal suggests Drake Avenue, Saxonbury Way and all roads accessed from them via their junctions with London Road, and Cook Avenue, Hicks Lane, Everest Way and all roads accessed from them via their junctions at London Road.

Cllr Howard shared the plans on Facebook, writing in various Hampton groups: "We all want to see safer roads in Hampton East and Hempsted and this will be a positive step, but our work will not stop here. We will continue to push for adoptions and improved infrastructure, but in the meantime we ask for your support when the consultation is live."
