The pass wide and slow awareness ride will begin at 10am this Sunday (September 19) at The Stables in Throstlenest, Farcet.

The route will then move through Stanground before looping back to Crown Lakes for a picnic.

A group spokesperson said: "Our aim is to educate and encourage drivers to act respectfully and safely.

"Everyone is welcome to join the ride, whether riding, driving, walking or biking."

Statistics from the British Horse Society show that in 2019-20 there were 1,037 incidents involving horses and cars reported. These incidents resulted in the deaths of 80 horses and one person.

The organisation said that 81% of these incidents were caused by cars passing too close to horses, while 40% were caused by cars passing too quickly.

The pass wide and slow rides are taking place across the country with around 160 other locations also hosting an event.
