The heavy rain forecast over the weekend didn’t hit Peterborough as expected – although Londoners described flooding there as the worst they'd experienced – but the Met Office forecast shows thunderstorms for Tuesday throughout the city.

Monday should start bright, with sunny intervals through the morning and cloudier skies in the afternoon. The temperature could hit 25C with very little breeze.

Storms are set to gather from Tuesday morning, prompting a thunderstorm warning from the Met Office beginning at 9am, although a dry midday is forecast before more rain in the afternoon.

The mercury won’t scale as high on Tuesday – around 22C – and wind gusts could pick up to around 15mph.

Mid-week may get gustier, with 30mph winds forecast for Wednesday afternoon, during a day of sunny intervals and light rain.

The windy weather is predicted to continue into Thursday. The temperature will hover around 20C and the pollen count will likely fall as the weekend draws closer.
