The Importance of Being Earnest will be presented by DOT Productions as part of a short summer tour, and will be performed in the outdoor space on the south side of the cathedral.
DOT Productions’ producer, Andrew Lindfield, had this to say about the company’s return: "We are so excited to be able to get back on stage after such a crazy few months! After having to cancel our planned tour of Jane Eyre, we didn’t know how long it would be before productions would be allowed again.
"Returning to such a wonderful venue like Peterborough Cathedral Cloisters was beyond our expectations for 2020, but our socially distanced rehearsals are all planned and we can’t wait to get going to perform in this ‘new normal’ world!"
Described by Oscar Wilde as "a trivial comedy for serious people", The Importance of Being Earnest is revered for its witty dialogue and great characters and promises a truly entertaining evening.
Arrangements will be made so that the Cathedral Cloisters is marked out, allowing the audience to sit in their households or 'bubbles' and stay suitably distanced from others. Ticket holders are encouraged to bring a rug, cushions or deckchair to sit in - and advised to check the weather forecast beforehand so that they're suitably dressed for whatever the weather may bring! The performance will be going ahead, rain or shine.
The show begins at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm so that people can arrive gradually and there's no need for queuing. Pre-ordered drinks will be on sale during the interval.
Great care has been taken to organise the performance in such a way that the risk from COVID-19 is kept to a minimum. You can see a note of the measures in place on the ticket website.
Tickets are £12 per person and are more details are available on the Peterborough Cathedral website.
