Podcast: No Netherlands for Nicola but cycle priorities remain

When we spoke to podcast guest Cllr Nicola Day earlier this week, she told us of her plans to visit the Netherlands today (Sunday, August 16).

The work-based trip was designed to take a look at Amsterdam's renowned cycle network, and see if any of the knowledge gained could be used in furthering the cycling offering in Peterborough.

Unfortunately the quarantine announcement in the middle of the week after rising cases of coronavirus made the journey impossible for Cllr Day, who is a Green party councillor for Peterborough City Council for Orton Waterville.

Speaking on Friday, Cllr Day said: "It's disappointing and a shame. We hadn't actually heard that the Netherlands cases had been rising, and thought we had found an ideal window to go after not being able to earlier in the summer.

"We will try to rearrange it for later in the year, but in the meantime we will be going camping instead."

During the chat for our latest Peterborough Natters podcast, Cllr Day spoke about how the Ortons have coped with Covid; the recent successful Critical Mass Cycle Ride through the city, and Peterborough's health in general.
