Nene Outdoors

At Nene Outdoors, you can make a splash with our full range of Pay and Play activities on Gunwade Lake, available between 11am and 6pm each day.

Daily watersports activities include swan pedalos and row boats, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and canoes, dinghies and windsurfing. Open Water Swimming sessions continue every Thursday evening. We'll also be running climbing wall and archery sessions on alternate weeks through the summer, plus our daily cycle hire is perfect for exploring the wider park.

On Overton Lake you’ll find daily boat trips for groups of up to 12 people on our eco-friendly passenger boat. Just sit back and relax whilst enjoying unique views of the lake and the wildlife around Ferry Meadows. Book your Nene Outdoors activities online to avoid the queues on those busy summer days.

Camping

Upgrade your day out at Ferry Meadows to an overnight adventure! Book one of our bell tents on the brand new ‘Lakeview Campsite’ or make a pitch-only booking on ‘The Glade’. Located in the heart of Ferry Meadows, both campsites have access to a number of facilities and are ideally situated to take advantage of all the exciting activities on offer at Nene Outdoors.

Lakeside Farm Shop

The brand new farm shop, located next to Nene Outdoors in Ferry Meadows, stocks an exciting range of locally grown and sourced produce from the Park’s very own farm partners as well as suppliers from across the region. Pick up your summer BBQ packs, picnic items and charcoal for your day out in the Park!

£2 million Lottery funding grant approved for Nene Park

Following an 18-month development phase, we have received confirmation that the National Lottery Heritage Fund has approved a grant of £1.965 million towards the five-year delivery phase of Nene Park: Your Community Greenspace, a £3 million project which will bring improvements to Nene Park infrastructure and deliver a range of community events and opportunities for Peterborough and the region.

We are looking forward to delivering these exciting plans for the Park and for Peterborough over the next few years and will be recruiting additional staff to expand the team. This project will be far reaching; improving and transforming Nene Park to meet the needs of the many communities of the city and helping improve physical and mental health and wellbeing for all as we recover from Covid-19.

Join our community litter picking events this summer

Following the success of our community litter pick in June as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean, we are holding four more community litter picking events over the summer holidays that we'd love you to come and join in with.

The Nene Park community litter picking dates are suitable for all the family to take part in and are running from 9-11am on Monday, July 26; Monday, August 9; Monday,  August 23 and Tuesday, August 31. Find out more on our website.

The first of the litter picking events falls within #LoveParksWeek (July 23 –  August 1), which this year has the focus of #LoveParks #RespectParks #ProtectParks. Nene Park Trust staff and volunteers look forward to welcoming you to these litter picking events and let’s hope that by working together to love and respect the Park we can all enjoy a cleaner, greener, litter-free environment.

Longthorpe Tower back open for tours!

Longthorpe Tower opened its doors to the public again on July 10, with a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers ready to show visitors around the Tower at weekends, bringing the remarkable medieval wall paintings to life. Visitors can book online for a one-hour visit on a Saturday or a Sunday, between 10am-4.30pm, throughout the summer and until the end of October.

Longthorpe Tower continues to be cared for by English Heritage, but the day-to-day management now falls under Nene Park Trust, ensuring access to this important historical site for Peterborough remains open for all. Please visit our website to find out more

Stay safe in the park this summer

From Monday, July 19, the Government is lifting all Covid-19 legal restrictions, meaning that the one metre and social distancing rule is no longer in place and mask wearing inside is no longer mandatory. However, at Nene Park we acknowledge that coronavirus is still with us and virus case numbers are set to rise throughout the summer.

In order to keep our staff and visitors as safe as possible, we are recommending that our visitors keep social distancing in mind especially in busier areas of the Park and would like to ask that visitors continue to wear masks when entering indoor facilities such as our Visitor Centre & Gift Shop, Lakeside Farm Shop, Nene Outdoors Watersports & Activity Centre, our cafés and toilets.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter, to help keep everyone safe.

Summer drawing competition to build excitement for Fox Play

Construction is well underway for Fox Play, the new play area at Lakeside in Ferry Meadows and while this continues throughout the summer, children are invited enter an art competition to share their excitement about the play area.

With the theme of ‘Enjoying Fox Play’, children aged three to 12 can send in a drawing or painting of themselves with their families or friends having a fabulous time in this new play area. Think exhilarating zip lines, climbing, swings and water play fun along with trees and beautiful planting. You can use detailed colouring pencils or bold paints – it’s up to you.

At the end of the summer, two winners will be announced and each winner will receive a £20 voucher to spend in the Visitor Centre & Gift Shop. For all the competition details please click here.
