Boxing: No Thrills but conclusive win for Jordan

Jordan Gill returned to the boxing ring with a classy and confident victory over Reece Bellotti in front of the Sky cameras.

The local fighter with a massive Peterborough following used the jab and uppercut to befuddle 'The Bomber' over the ten-round distance, in the first fight of Eddie Hearn's initial Matchroom Fight Camp behind closed doors.

Neither of the two featherweights was seriously hurt over the ten rounds but it was Gill's timing and elusive qualities that told, virtually from the opening bell.

Bellotti bore in and landed a couple of decent body shots at times, perhaps remembering how Gill fell to his sole defeat last year to Enrique Tinoco.

But by the mid-rounds Gill's angles and technical efficiency had opened up a cut above Bellotti's eye, leaving the Watford fighter walking forward into further hurtful shots.

The five-fight bill is being held under unusual conditions, as each fighter has been inside a 'bubble' since Tuesday in a local hotel thanks to the continued effects of Covid-19 on sport and leisure.

Perhaps the lack of crowd was more of an advantage for 'The Thrill' than a hindrance, as it allowed him to fight his own fight - a disciplined one.

The skill difference was apparent and the three judges scored the fight to Gill by 97-93 (twice) and a too-close 96-95.

Jordan will now look to return to the ring later this year, perhaps again in Peterborough.
