Grant celebrated scoring against Posh last season - but has confirmed his move to the Weston Homes Stadium this week

Posh confirmed on June 29 that highly-rated Lincoln City midfielder Jorge Grant has joined the club on a three-year deal, despite competition from fellow Championship rivals.

The midfielder is a well-known name among Posh supporters; Grant was part of Lincoln City side that challenged Ferguson's men for automatic promotion. Notably, he scored a penalty in the 3-3 draw at the Weston Homes Stadium that saw Posh secure their return to Championship.

Grant, 26, becomes the second signing this week for Darren Ferguson’s side after they confirmed the services of experienced goalkeeper David Cornell on a free transfer following his departure from Ipswich Town.

Grant’s stats last season were phenomenal, scoring 17 league goals – mostly from the spot – and contributing to seven assists. He was named in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Year and drew interest from a number of clubs in the Championship.

Speaking about the signing, manager Darren Ferguson said he was pleased to see off the other teams and described Grant arrival as a "really big signing" for the club.

He said: “When we found out there was a possibility of bringing him to the club, he was one of our main targets during the close season.

“When I sat down with the boy, it was obvious that he was very interested in coming to play for us, the way we play suits him down to the ground and for me, it is a really big signing for us.

“He was voted into the League One team of the year by his peers last season, he scored a lot of goals and created many more and he brings a bit of versatility too. He can play in a two in midfield or in a three or further forward as a number 10.

“We have had to be patient to get the deal over the line because there were a lot of other clubs in for him, so I am absolutely delighted to get it done and am looking forward to working with him.”

Grant told the club website: “I am delighted to be here. When I sat down with the manager and listened to what he had to say I was really intrigued about the opportunity.

“I felt like it suited me down to the ground, they play good football and I know what they are about having played against the club last season for Lincoln City.

“I really enjoyed my time at Lincoln, but I felt it was the right time for me to play in the Championship and I am looking forward to that opportunity with Peterborough.

“It is nice to get things sorted quickly and I can look ahead to meeting my team-mates and getting started.”

The other new face at the Weston Homes Stadium next season is Welsh goalkeeper David Cornell, who has made clear he wants to put up a challenge for the number one spot currently occupied by Christy Pym.

He said: "It is a great opportunity for me, the club had a wonderful campaign last season and secured promotion to the Championship, and I want to come in and challenge for that number one position.

“I was grateful that the club wanted to get the deal done quickly and I can now look forward to meeting the lads and start forming relationships, particularly with the goalkeepers we have at the club and the coach Mark Tyler.”
