The statement from the zoo reads: "We need your help to look after our amazing animals here at the Zoo.
"It costs an average of £4,000 per day to run Hamerton Zoo Park.
"All of this money comes from our visitors. Now we are closed, this has stopped completely.
"Our animals need help from our visitors at this difficult time. Our staff and regular volunteers are all fit and fine, and are busy with their jobs, and their animals; which are enjoying the lovely weather."
The zoo's breeding programme sees many spring arrivals, including mini donkey foal, dingo puppies, wombat joeys and young scarlet ibis.
The zoo reached its first fundraising target of £4,000 on April 16, and has since raised £7,575 of its £24,000 target.
