Katrina Hughes joins Butcher Bayley Architects (BBA) after completing her Masters in Architecture at the University of Bath and spending two years at an architecture agency in North Carolina. In her new role, Katrina will undertake all aspects of project work – from feasibility studies through to construction drawings; while being supported in her continuing professional development.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and its impacts on the development, planning and architecture industries, BBA continues to grow.

Speaking about her new role, Katrina said: "When I first found BBA, I was intrigued by the way they worked with their clients and the way they used design and innovations in their projects.

"I think the most important thing in architecture is to build with people and for people – which makes understanding and meeting a client’s needs the key to success. I could see that BBA do this on a daily basis – which is why I’m really looking forward to being a part of the team."

Katrina has already completed her part I and part II qualifications towards becoming a fully qualified architect and will receive support from BBA in completing the third and final part of the qualification process.

Luke Butcher, co-founder and director of BBA, said of the appointment: "We’re thrilled to have Katrina joining BBA. Despite the uncertainty of COVID-19, we’ve managed to maintain our business and are in a position to expand the team – and she will be a very valued addition, with her motivation to realise the needs of clients and the experience she has already amassed in other roles and through her education.

"We’re keen to give Katrina autonomy to put her own stamp on projects, bringing her individual design flair and style to our growing portfolio of exciting projects.

"This is of course an uncertain period of time for the world right now, but at BBA we’re still hard at work bringing exciting projects – whether small-scale renovations, or larger developments – from concept to reality. Having Katrina as part of the team is only going to make us stronger as we head into the rest of the year."
