Peterborough City Council is making the changes for the car park from August 3 to August 31, from 5pm Mondays to Wednesdays.

Signage will be in place at the car park to reassure residents that the car parking charges are relaxed during these evenings.

The decision to relax car parking charges at the council-owned car park has been made to help city residents enjoy an even cheaper night out, as part of the Government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ campaign.

The campaign encourages people to dine out, by offering a 50% discount when they eat in restaurants that are registered with the national ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme. It applies every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from August 3 to August 31.

Cllr Marco Cereste, cabinet member for street scene and the environment at Peterborough City Council, said: "We wanted to help our residents and businesses by making it even cheaper for diners to take advantage of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme by offering free parking at the Car Haven.

"While the latest Centre for Cities data shows that Peterborough high street is recovering following lockdown quicker than the national average, it’s important that we do all we can to protect our local economy during this time."
