Bridge Street charity shop to close next week

Oxfam's charity shop in Bridge Street is closing on August 21

The shop, which was open three days a week, is closing due to a loss of income caused by a decline in footfall and a rise in costs.

The lease for the shop is due to expire in September, but Oxfam has confirmed that it will not be renewing.

Lisa Milner, Oxfam’s interim central operations manager, said: “It is with deep regret that we are having to close our Bridge St Peterborough Oxfam shop on August 21.

“Our fabulous, dedicated team have worked tirelessly to make this shop welcoming and a great place to find a bargain and the closure of this shop is no reflection on them.

“Sadly, increasing investment costs such as rent, service charge and maintenance of such an old building, along with declining footfall, has seen a dramatic fall in the income generated at this shop in recent years and the lease is due to expire in September.

“We have had to take the difficult decision not to renew and to close.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers and loyal donors and customers for their support for so many years.”

When closed, the nearest Oxfam shops to Peterborough will be in Oundle and Stamford.
