Jamie Macintosh, 24, was sentenced to 14 weeks at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He admitted stealing food and drink worth £276.70 during three visits to the Sawston branch of Co-op between Thursday, November 11 and last Sunday.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing three handbags and men’s clothing worth a total of £498.96 from a Cambridge branch of TK Maxx between October 29 and November 2.

And Macintosh admitted taking a pedal cycle without consent at Sawston last Sunday, which also placed him in breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order.

Nick Symonds, mitigating, said: “He said unfortunately he still has a drug habit and he stole to support that.

“He probably needs a term of incarceration to help him get free of drugs.”

Macintosh, of no fixed address, was sentenced to a total of 14 weeks’ custody and ordered to pay compensation to Co-op and TK Maxx.
