Darren Ferguson’s men recorded their first back-to-back wins since returning to the Championship after an injury-time goal from Siriki Dembele sealed a second consecutive 2-1 win against Queens Park Rangers.

The two victories have now seen Posh leapfrog out of the relegation zone and will want to maintain the positive momentum when they travel to Wales to face Russell Martin’s Swansea City at Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

Team News and Predicted Line-up

It’s positive news in terms of player selection as Jonson Clarke-Harris will be welcomed back to the matchday squad after serving his four-match ban but could find himself on the bench after the displays from Sammie Szmodics and Dembele.

Attacking midfielder Kwame Poku is also available for the trip to Swansea City after recovering from a knock to the knee. Joel Randall, Ricky Jade-Jones and Jack Marriott remain side-lined, but Randall and Jones are close to returning to first-team action.

Predicted line-up: Cornell; Ward, Thompson, Edwards, Beevers, Burrows; Norburn, Taylor; Grant, Szmodics and Dembele

Opposition View

The Swans season so far is a complete contrast to what they experienced last season, going from finishing fourth and reaching the play-off places to now flirting above the relegation zone, but it has been very much a transition campaign in the opening 15 games.

After Steve Cooper’s departure in the summer, Swansea welcomed the highly-touted Russell Martin, former MK Dons manager, to the Liberty Stadium. However, his arrival was two games into the season, so it has been difficult to implement his ideas and explain the up-and-down season so far.

Although The Swans were beaten in their last outing against Birmingham City, Martin’s men have picked up some impressive results, including a 2-1 victory over West Brom and earning the bragging rights in the Welsh derby.

Two players to keep an eye on for The Swans are forwards Joel Piroe and Jamie Patterson, who have both racked up 13 goals between them in 14 Championship fixtures.

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Ferguson always knew that Martin would one day go into management.

“Swansea are a possession-based side, they have always had that identify and in Russell Martin, they have a manager who likes to play that way. He did it at Milton Keynes Dons and

nothing much has changed in terms of the style. I always thought that he would go into management when I had him as a player and he has done well. I look forward to seeing him on Saturday”.

Past Meetings

Although these two sides have met twice in the last ten years in the League Cup – now known as Carabao Cup – they haven’t met in domestic league action since February 2010.

Swansea City secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Posh at the Liberty Stadium, which saw Jim Gannon’s side pushed closer to relegation at the time.

David Cotterill converted from the spot in the 20th minute after being brought down by midfielder Charlie Lee in what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Posh haven’t enjoyed past meetings with Swansea City in the league – failing to beat the Welsh side in the domestic league since 1998, but have won twice in cup competitions in that time.

Last five meetings

Posh 1-3 Swansea City – Aug 2016 (League Cup)

Posh 1-3 Swansea City – Sep 2010 (League Cup)

Swansea City 1-0 Posh – Feb 2010

Posh 2-2 Swansea City – Dec 2009

Posh 1-0 Swansea City – Oct 2006 (EFL Cup)

PeterboroughMatters Prediction

Ahead of Fulham at home next Saturday, Posh have two very winnable games starting with Swansea City this weekend. However, The Swans have recently picked up a good result against West Brom last Tuesday and will be a tough opponent in front of a packed Liberty Stadium if they want to build on their two-game winning streak.
