New look for hospital's cancer well-being service centre
The centre has been transformed to create an uplifting and welcoming environment for patients using the cancer well-being service along with partners, friends and carers.
As part of the transformation, the centre has a brand new kitchen thanks to a generous donation by Bates & Elliott Kitchen Installations. New flooring has also been fitted and new sofas and lighting introduced.
Lisa Deacon, one of the centre's two Macmillan Cancer well-being service managers, said: “The transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful support from local donors.
“We are constantly in awe of the generosity of local people and trades.
"We are so grateful for being able to make the environment here with us a comfortable and welcoming one for patients, families and carers.”
Joint service manager Rebecca Hardy said: “We know that for many people, a cancer diagnosis is the hardest piece of news they will ever receive, especially when it comes during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Those early days can be a blur, as can points further down the line when the emotional and physical toll of cancer and its treatment can put stress on a person’s working life and relationships.
“Being able to step into a calming space for information, support or a chat is a relief for many people and reassures them that they can turn to us to discuss absolutely anything.”
The centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9am-4pm and Friday 9am-12.30pm. It aims to support people with living well during and after cancer treatment through the provision of practical advice and emotional support at a time which is right for them.
