Last year the chain along with Jaegar, which is owned by Edinburgh Woollen Mill, announced it’s going into administration following collapse, putting thousands of jobs at risk.

Staff and regular shoppers have expressed their sadness on social media, with one saying "they are gutted", following the announcement.

On Facebook, the store manager confirmed the news on Wednesday, February 10, in the Bretton Community Facebook group and urged people to support the high street, if they still want one going forward.

In her message she said: "It is with a heavy heart I announce that Peacocks Bretton Centre has now closed for good and the shop has now been emptied.

"I would like to thank everyone for their custom over the past 11 years that I have been at the store and all the staff that have worked for me during that time many of them from Bretton."
