The trek is in aid of Sports Connections Foundation (SCF), a children’s charity that uses sport to inspire, empower, educate and transform the lives of young people.

The event on Saturday, September 25, will start at 11am from The Boat Inn and finish at the Weston Homes Stadium - although participants have the option to return, which would take the trek from 6.1 miles (one-way) up to 12.2 miles.

Based in Peterborough but helping children throughout the UK and internationally, the charity is committed to raising aspirations and creating role models for the next generation whilst providing exciting exit routes and transforming communities.

SCF run various programmes including Sporting Wishes for children facing life-threatening illnesses, developing positive futures and mentoring disadvantaged children through the Inspire Through Sport programme and raising aspirations and building resilience through the ProKick Schools Challenge.

The pandemic has been particularly tough for young people with many who were already feeling isolated or suffering from poor mental health being unable to access support over the last 18 months.

Jo Seymour, one of the event organisers said: “A group of carers decided to organise a sponsored event to help raise funds for a local charity. We work with children from a variety of backgrounds and it seemed logical to look at a local children’s charities.

"Sports Connections Foundation is a Peterborough-based charity which helps children and young people through the positive use of sport. They have done amazing work since it started in 2010 and helped over 550,000 children and young people, but not many people are not aware of this charity and the work they do.

"For this charity to continue to flourish we are asking that anyone that is able to walk or cycle join us in participating in this event to help support this charity because without charities like this, children and young people cannot benefit from the charities positive influence and create positive futures”.
