Her daughter, Clare Swindell, wrote to Peterborough Matters and said: "Doreen Swindell, my lovely mum and devoted nan to my boys died in Peterborough City Hospital on Wednesday September 8.
"She spent seven weeks battling the effects of a stroke."
Doreen had her 86th birthday on August 1, spending the day in hospital.
She had a number of jobs through her life, but her last one was working in the linen room at Peterborough District Hospital.
Clare added: "She was such a fun lady and was always smiling and laughing. She loved her holidays with me and absolutely adored the two cruises that we went on and our for holidays to Tenerife.
"Although she didn't sing she loved hearing me and my boys sing at open mic nights and at karaoke."
Funeral arrangements will follow.
