In a report submitted to the Growth, Environment and Resources Scrutiny Committee for the January 13 meeting, it has been revealed that the Western Loans Arts Fund has provided funding for a new Peterborough project.

'Romancing the City' is set to bring together 60 significant Romantic and Neo-Romantic works as part of a display. Many of these paintings will be from the museum's own collection - ones that normally remain in storage.

The report states: "This will support Peterborough Museum being perceived by more people as a venue with inspiring collections that can provide a vibrant programme, which will help greatly towards our future sustainability."

Although currently closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, Peterborough museum did reopen on December 4 with an art display of work from local artists that celebrate the city.

A major part of the council bid to the Towns Fund, from which Peterborough was awarded up to £22million to fund its regeneration, was an extension to the museum to emphasise the city's Bronze Age history.
