There are approximately 3,000 swimming clubs in Britain, the top 900 compete in the NASL and the final is made up of the top ten. COPS was the smallest membership base club in the final on the day, with three other clubs boasting university support and scholarships and three from private schools.
COPS finished ninth – not the highest finish seen by the Peterborough sporting club in the past, but it was a welcome return to the top ten for head coach, Ben Negus.
He said: “It’s been a great privilege to bring the team back to the national finals and a great experience for a new crop of youngsters to compete at this level. I’m proud of the team approach and support on deck, and I’m sure we’ve not only done the club proud but made sure that there is a group of leaders going to learn from this experience for our future growth. Proud to see Peterborough has a club as strong in team ethos as we had at this meet.”
Stand-out performances from the day include Vanesa Cimenova, who came first in her 50m Butterfly race for those aged 11 years old and younger, and Amelia Monaghan, who came third in the Open 200m Individual Medley race.
