The Peterborough and District Bowls Centre (PDBC) was first established in Burton Street in 1959 to service the needs of the many outdoor bowlers who wanted to play their sport during the winter months. Since then the club has flourished and now boasts over 500 members, six outdoor rinks and nine state of the art indoor rinks as well as a function room. You can also enjoy a meal or snack in our restaurant and a drink in the bar.

Bowls is a sport that appeals to everyone, whatever their age or ability. We have members who want nothing more than a social game with a few friends once a week through to more competitive bowlers who want to test their skills against fellow club members and the top bowlers from other clubs all over the country. As well as local competitions we host many county and inter club games and it is here that that you can see some of the top competitors in the UK.

Many of our members love the fact that they forge many new friendships playing bowls and enjoy the many social events that the club organises.

Yaxley man Nicky Brett’s wonder bowl at the World Championships went viral recently, and if you saw it you could be forgiven for thinking that this looks easy. I can assure you that it is not - but the club provides coaching every Saturday morning where you can learn to play the sport under the guidance of qualified coaches.

But the PDBC is about so much more than bowls. We pride ourselves on the fact that the club is a part of the community and that we offer facilities and a venue for local people to meet and socialise, as well as to participate in their various activities. The past few years have seen the closure of many public houses and the bowls club is now the adopted home of two darts and pool teams. We host a bowling session for a local visually impaired bowling club, and twice a week local people take part in the Paralympic sport, Boccia, which we run in conjunction with Vivacity. Every week we have an archery club and once a month the function room is home to Spanglers Country Music Club.

There really is something here for everyone. So whatever takes your fancy, let’s have a chat about it. Give our chairman, Jeff Pitt a call on 07976 034180 or committee member Martin Bunning on 07879 853349.
