A unanimous Combined Authority Board vote agreed on £6.6m for construction on Fengate.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Board approved £6,665,696 to get the Fengate Access Study Improvement Schemes from planning into construction.

The unanimous vote to start construction came after members noted the completed Fengate Phase 1 Full Business Case.

The study centres on the north of Fengate, particularly around the 12.6 acre Red Brick Farm site which CAPCA expects to become a “thriving hub” of storage, distribution and industrial units with office space.

The study considers Junctions 7 and 8 of the A1139 Fletton Parkway providing access to the Parkway system, routes into Fengate and roads within Fengate.

The Fengate schemes include two traffic signal improvements, one at the junction on the northbound approaches of Vicarage Farm Road and Storey’s Bar Road and the other at Junction 7 of the A1139 Frank Perkins Parkway.

A mini roundabout will be installed at Oxney Road/Newark Road.

Pedestrians will benefit from Newark Road footpath improvements and a new pedestrian crossing over Oxney Road between Junction 7 and the Oxney Road/Sainsburys Roundabout.

Active travel projects have also been added to the schemes as they’ve evolved into a Full Business Case.
