A shopkeeper has admitted a charge related to drug dealing – for selling 40p lollipops containing cannabis.
Gulal Shamalzi admitted possession of cannabis with intent to supply at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The officer involved in the case said police received reports that the lollies were for sale at a shop in Whittlesey.
Police then carried out a warrant at Mr Shamalzi’s convenience shop, in Market Street, in April last year.
Cannabis lollipops were seized and tests later showed they contained Tetrahydrocannabinol, a cannabinol derivative and component of cannabis-related material.
Shamalzi was handed a 12-month community order with a mental health treatment requirement and a 12-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
He was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and the cannabis lollies were destroyed.
A photograph released after the court hearing shows a label on the box indicating the lollies were being sold for 40p each.
"18+ only" was also written on the box.
PC Gary Stabler said: “This investigation highlights our commitment to listening to the community's concerns and following up on information we receive.
“Cannabis edibles can be dangerous, and with bright packaging, they can be particularly appealing to children and young people.
“We take all offences involving drugs very seriously and would urge people to continue reporting information to us.”
