A man has died and a woman is in hospital in a life-threatening condition following a fire at a house in Peterborough.
Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to reports of the blaze on Crabtree, Paston, at around 5.47am this morning (Monday June 19).
When crews from Dogsthorpe, Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Stanground and Thorney arrived, they found a well-developed fire at a terraced house.
Firefighters rescued two people from the property and performed CPR alongside the ambulance service.
One man was declared dead at the scene and a woman has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, and all crews left the area by around 12pm.
A fire investigation is now underway to establish the most likely cause of the fire.
Police officers and paramedics also attended the scene, and the road remains closed.
Superintendent Neil Billany said: “We are investigating this fire alongside the fire service to try to understand the cause of this tragic incident.
"We are treating it as unexplained and are keeping an open mind around the cause.
“We understand it may be concerning for local residents, but we are treating this as an isolated incident and there are extra police officers in the area today.
