A woman who was injured following an accidental house fire in Peterborough that also killed a man has died in hospital.

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to reports of the blaze on Crabtree, Paston, at around 5.47am on Monday (June 19).

When crews from Dogsthorpe, Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Stanground and Thorney arrived, they found a well-developed fire at a terraced house.

Firefighters rescued two people from the property and performed CPR alongside the ambulance service.

One man was declared dead at the scene and a woman was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, and all crews left the area by around 12pm.

“A thorough investigation into the cause of the fire has been carried out by officers and the fire service, and the cause has been confirmed as accidental,” said a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
