If you're looking for a dog-friendly pub with delicious food and picturesque views, then a visit to The Boathouse in Peterborough is essential.

All the meals at the recently-renovated pub are well-presented, cooked to perfection and portion size is no issue.

For starter, we opted for the crispy salt and pepper squid which is served with chopped spring onion, coriander and red chillies, as well as a sticky sweet chilli relish.

Main course options, meanwhile, are endless, meaning there's plenty to ensure guests return.

My wife chose the huge Cajun chicken burger, which was topped with smoked cheese, streaky bacon and white BBQ dip, and came with onion rings and chips.

Meanwhile, I decided on something a little out of my comfort zone - the (delicious) duo of Korean chicken.

It was a great, flavourful choice: as well as the chicken breast and crispy chicken strips which were glazed in sticky Korean BBQ sauce, the dish also featured basmati & wild rice, pickled cucumber ribbons, tangy kimchi, fresh chilli and sesame seeds. A real taste sensation.

The seafood special - a mix of salmon, sea bass, tiger prawns and roasted new potatoes - looked very tempting too, so we'll definitely be back.

Then, it was time for desert. Again, the range of choices cover all types of sweet tooth. The chocolate brownie with chocolate pieces and clotted cream custard was spot-on, as was the sticky toffee pudding.

Overall, all the meals we tried were great value for money, while the building's cosy interior and vibrant décor channelled a mix of traditional and country styling.

The bar area at the waterside pub, which is part of the Chef and Brewer Collection of country pubs, has also had a noticeable makeover, as well as the outdoor area.

Among the new features are an external bar and heated pergola while, for furry friends, there's even a designated station set up with soft blankets and water for them to chill out.

Situated next to the tranquil River Nene and surrounded by open parkland, including Thorpe Park and Peterborough Sculpture Park, it's easy to see why the pub is a popular spot for dog walkers and families to visit.
