The long Easter weekend is a great opportunity to get outdoors and spend some time wandering around Cambridgeshire.

One of the best ways to do that is by paying a visit to some country parks across Cambridgeshire.

1. Ferry Meadows

Ferry Meadows is just three miles from Peterborough City Centre, and is a great day out.

It's located in the heart of Nene Park, and is surrounded by woodland and a lake, as well as lots of activities.

There are cafes and play areas for children to have plenty of fun on, as well as a visitor centre, a gift shop and a farm shop.

From March 29 to April 14, there will be an Easter Adventure Trail at Ferry Meadows which will have a scavenger hunt, as well as family-friendly games.

2. Hinchingbrooke Country Park

Hinchingbrooke Country Park is just outside of Huntingdon, and is 150 acres of grassland, woodland and lakes.

There are play areas for children, and is a popular country park among dog walkers and nature spotters.

There's plenty to do at Hinchingbrooke Country Park and it's a great place to spend a day of the Easter bank holiday at.

3. Ely Country Park

East Cambridgeshire residents can enjoy a calm day out at Ely Country Park, where bird spotting is a common activity.

There are two walks through this country park, the Kingfisher and the Bulrush, which vary in length depending on how far you want to walk.

It's a family friendly park, as there's a play and picnic area which has a zip wire and a climbing frame.

4. Walpole Water Gardens

Walpole Water Gardens aren't your typical country park. Instead, this is an oasis garden filled with exotic plants.

You can wander round the tropical environment and escape a traditional English garden for a few hours.

There is a licensed bar as well as a tea room as well.

5. Wandlebury Country Park

Wandlebury Country Park is considered to be Cambridgeshire's oldest country park.

It sits just outside of Cambridge, so it may be a bit of a journey to get to, but it's definitely worth it.

Wandlebury has something for everyone. There are picnic benches, over 8km of paths, as well as den building areas and wildlife viewing hides.

There is also a games field for family fun, which sounds like a great way to spend the Easter bank holiday.
