A high-flying optician is celebrating reaching his 20th year in the industry after starting at just 17-years-old.

Daniel Penniston, dispensing optician and customer service partner for Specsavers home visits, began his optical journey in 2004 as a frame advisor in the Peterborough store.

Appropriately, he marks his double-decade anniversary during national Learning at Work Week (May 13-19).

During his early career, he completed the Specsavers optical assistant and certificate 3 programme and was able to move up to dispensing glasses.

Through his time at the Peterborough store, he went from being the front-of-house team leader to area manager for Peterborough and Serpentine Green stores.

Daniel’s expertise and experience helped him progress to become a home visits partner across Norwich and the surrounding areas in 2021.

This all led to Daniel doing a Specsavers pathway course, which allowed him to become a home visits partner across Norwich and the surrounding areas in 2021.

Daniel said: "I decided to become part of the home visits business because the opportunity to help people and make a difference in their lives was something I couldn’t pass up.

"The role is so rewarding to us and the customers. Often you will be the first person they have seen for a few weeks.

"I really make the time to get to know them and make a positive change for their lives."

Daniel sees roughly 6,000 people for sight tests in customers’ homes and in care homes.

Steve Emmingham, Peterborough Specsavers retail director, said: "We are so proud of Daniel, watching him progress through the ranks here in our store and now with his own Specsavers domiciliary business.

"He is helping even more people in such an important way."
