A Peterborough village has been saved from Christmas isolation.
Farcet residents faced a bleak festive season after a collapsed road, caused by leaking sewage works, threatened to cut off bus services.
However, thanks to the efforts of Stagecoach East’s Peterborough operations manager, Hema Russell, county councillor Andrew Wood, and Farcet Parish Council, a solution has been found.
A deal was struck between bus operator Stagecoach, the council, and Anglian Water to fund a shuttle bus between Farcet and Queensgate Bus Station in Peterborough.
This 12-hour service will run from 7am to 7pm every day until alternative arrangements are made.

Ms Russell said: “We are very pleased to have been able to come an agreement with the parish council and Anglian Water – both of them really wanted to find a solution and have moved quickly to make that happen for local residents.
“People in Farcet were facing the terrible situation of being left isolated, just in the run-up to Christmas, at a time when local residents want to get their bus to go shopping, meet friends, or get to work."
Gavin Stanley, senior area operations manager for Anglian Water, added: “We’re really pleased that we were able to agree this solution with Stagecoach.
"We know it’s never ideal when operational work causes access problems, but it’s particularly disruptive at this time of year, when people are making Christmas plans and trying to get to the shops.
"So we’re really glad that, with Stagecoach’s help, we’ve been able to find a solution for the people in Farcet.”
The shuttle bus service will help residents continue with their Christmas plans, including shopping and meeting friends.
It will remain in operation until further notice, ensuring that Farcet is not left isolated during the festive period.
