Peterborough: Service held to honour Katharine of Aragon

The event on January 24 was to honour Katharine of Aragon.

The service was led by the Very Reverend Chris Dalliston, dean of Peterborough, and was attended by students, dignitaries, and local community members.

The service included readings and prayers, with students from Jack Hunt School and other local schools taking part.

They gave readings and joined a procession to Katharine of Aragon’s tomb, where wreaths were laid.

Jon Hebblethwaite, head teacher of Jack Hunt School, said: “Our students were honoured to be invited to attend this poignant event and represent our school within the community.”

Katharine of Aragon died in Cambridgeshire in 1536.

By order of Henry VIII, she was laid to rest at Peterborough Abbey, which is now the city’s cathedral.

Her tomb remains a site of historical significance.

The ceremony is an annual event and aims to foster a sense of community and historical reflection among attendees.

It also serves as a tribute to the legacy of Katharine of Aragon.
