A man who threatened a bin crew in Peterborough has been ordered to pay compensation.

The man, in his 30s, was arrested after he attacked the bin lorry they were travelling in with a weapon in Werrington on Friday (October 17).

"Luckily none of our refuse collectors were injured, although they were shaken, but the refuse vehicle they took shelter in was damaged," a spokesperson for Peterborough City Council said.

"As a council we will not tolerate acts of violence and abuse towards our staff, who are simply trying to do a good job for the residents of our city, and will report matters to the police where appropriate."

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said following investigation, the man was handed a conditional caution - including an order for £200 compensation.
