Peterborough Cathedral is delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Strange as its new director of music.

Chris brings extensive experience in choral music and musical leadership, with a proven track record in developing choirs, nurturing young talent, and delivering outstanding musical performances.

In his new role, he will oversee the Cathedral’s entire music programme, leading its choirs, inspiring musicians, and further strengthening the Cathedral’s rich tradition of sacred and choral music.

The Dean of Peterborough, the Very Revd Chris Dalliston, said: "I am delighted to welcome Chris. Chris met the challenge of being asked to take on the role of acting director over a year ago and has since met every challenge, both musical and in terms of leadership, with calmness and confidence.

"We believe he will ensure that the priceless tradition of choral music, that is so much a part of what our cathedral has to offer, will continue to enrich our worship and inspire both singers and congregations alike in this next chapter of our Cathedral story."

Chris will lead:

  • 50 Choristers (aged 7–13)
  • 8 choral services every week
  • 14 hours of rehearsals each week
  • Over 300 services per year

Between now and Christmas alone, the Cathedral’s choirs will sing to around 5,000 people through services and concerts.

Chris Strange said: "I am thrilled to have been appointed director of music at Peterborough at an exciting time in the Cathedral’s life.

"Having thoroughly enjoyed working with colleagues and the choristers over the last 12 months as acting director of music, I am keen to continue to build on the successes of the year.

"In particular, I look forward to further expanding our repertoire, offering more concerts both in and out of Peterborough, developing new partnerships across the Diocese, and continuing our pursuit of the highest possible standards in musical performance and education."

Chris assumes his role with immediate effect and will be leading the Cathedral’s music programme throughout the upcoming Christmas services, concerts, and special events.
