Werrington Primary School is making big strides under new leadership and a refreshed vision.

Since the arrival of headteacher David Johnson last September, the Peterborough school, part of Soke Education Trust, has introduced a range of schemes focused on learning, personal growth and positive values.

Mr Johnson said: "The Kindness Crew is a lovely way to reward children in our school who show kindness to staff members and form wonderful friendships with their peers.

"By using a nominating system, pupils learn to celebrate kind acts they see in others, which encourages them to lead by example and show even more compassion each day."

Among the new ideas is the Kindness Crew, which encourages pupils to recognise and celebrate acts of kindness.

Each week, one child from every class is chosen as a Kindness Crew Ambassador and entrusted with caring for the class’s cuddly 'crew member'.

Mr Johnson has also launched the Skills Builder programme, which he has previously implemented in two other schools.

The scheme aims to develop confident communicators, resilient learners and community champions by embedding teamwork and respect for others.

Mr Johnson said: "I am delighted to be introducing Skills Builder to our pupils and staff.

"I have seen first-hand how the programme helps develop children into more independent, bold and adaptable learners."

Personal development is also a focus this term, with pupils encouraged to take on leadership roles.

Year 5 pupils are acting as Playground Leaders, organising lunchtime games and activities, while others are standing for the school council or becoming House Captains.

Many children are leading their own lunchtime clubs, with 20 different options available this term.

Cathy Carlisle, CEO of Soke Education Trust, said: "I am extremely excited about this new chapter for Werrington Primary School.

"David brings a wonderful depth of experience, and I know his passion and expertise will make a real difference."
