The winners of this year’s Peterborough Civic Awards have been announced, honouring people who have made a difference in the community.

The Civic Awards are run every year by the council to recognise residents, groups, organisations and businesses across Peterborough.

Among this year's winners is Harry Machin, chair of the Peterborough Litter Wombles, who helps organise community litter picks, along with The Wonky Donkey micropub in Fletton and the Peterborough Phantoms Ice Hockey Club.

Faustina Yang, founder and leader of Chinese Women in Peterborough, received a Lifetime Achievement award.

Other winners were Alan Gage, Alex Ford, Anita Rowcliffe, Ayaz Nawaz, Bilal Aslam, Colin Harrison, Crocus Café’s Barry Pennill, Janet Cooke and Maureen McKenna, David Wooldridge, Georgina Parrett, Ivelina Banyalieva, James Hopgood, Marco Sementa, Martyna Baxter, Mick Howes, Mina Tank, Tejinder (Gez) Chetal, Chris Lovell, Dorota Trajdos, Marc Hernandez, Steve Jason, Zillur Hussain MBE, Dave Simpson, Ian Bowskill, Michelle Mills, Pip Gardner, John Richardson, and Beatrice Willbond.

Cllr Judy Fox, the Mayor of Peterborough, said: “I would like to congratulate all of the winners and also thank everyone who made nominations.

"We have some absolutely fantastic communities in Peterborough and the Civic Awards are a great way to celebrate those who make a positive contribution to our city and surrounding areas but don’t always get the recognition they deserve.”

All recipients will be invited to receive their awards at a special presentation being held at Sand Martin House on Thursday, May 14.
