A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a boy in Cambridgeshire.
Police were called at just before 7pm yesterday (Sunday April 12) to a report that a 16-year-old had been attacked in Riseholme, near the Orton Centre, in Peterborough.
Emergency services, including paramedics, went to the scene and the boy was taken to hospital, but he died later in the evening.
Detectives are treating the boy’s death as murder and two people from Peterborough – a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man – are under arrest on suspicion of murder.
A 17-year-old girl from Peterborough has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A 16-year-old girl from March has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and possession of a bladed article.
All are in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
An area around the scene at the Orton Centre has been cordoned off to allow police inquiries to be carried out and there will be an increased police presence in the area over coming days.
DCI Richard Stott, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated.
“While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack and there will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.
“I would urge anyone who believes they have information about this attack, or lives in the area and has CCTV at their home, to contact police.”
