An engineer from Peterborough has been recognised for 40 years of dedicated service.

Adrian White has helped deliver thousands of electricity connections across the eastern region during his four decades with UK Power Networks.

Starting his career as an apprentice, Mr White specialised as an overhead linesperson before earning a Higher National Certificate and later supporting key projects to digitise cable records—efforts that helped shape the modern, data-driven network systems in use today.

His work includes major infrastructure developments in Peterborough, such as the redevelopment of Cathedral Square and upgrades to the Queensgate Shopping Centre.

Mr White said: "When I first started, we used a 'T-card' system to manually plan jobs.

"I remember when the first computer scheduling system came in – at the time it felt like a huge step forward.

"Now we’re looking at Artificial Intelligence supporting how we work, and that’s just the next stage of the journey."

Mr White spent time working in Paris through an international twinning programme, gaining a broader perspective on how electricity networks operate overseas.

He said: "You get to know people right across the business, and you realise how important it is to build a strong network of contacts.

"Even after 40 years, I’m still learning and coming across new things on the network."

He is one of 63 UK Power Networks staff inducted into the company’s 40+ Club, which honours employees who have spent four decades helping keep the lights on for millions across the region.

Basil Scarsella, chief executive of UK Power Networks, said: "It is always a privilege to celebrate colleagues who have devoted so many years to serving our customers and communities.

"Their service, skill and commitment have helped keep electricity supplies flowing for millions of people, and we are proud to recognise their outstanding contribution."
