Fans will be able to celebrate through the night as pubs stay open late for England’s World Cup match against Mexico - a move backed by Peterborough's MP.
The government has announced a special one-off relaxation of licensing hours for Sunday night’s World Cup clash between England and Mexico, allowing pubs and bars to stay open until 5am on Monday morning.
The change means venues across England and Wales will not have to navigate extra red tape or apply for individual extensions, giving a timely boost to the hospitality sector as fans gear up for the 1am kick‑off.

Andrew Pakes, MP for Peterborough, welcomed the move, describing it as a “real boost” for the hospitality sector and the wider community.
Mr Pakes said: "This is a huge opportunity for our city to come together, cheer on England and showcase the very best of Peterborough’s pubs, bars and venues.
"We have a fantastic local hospitality offer, and this decision gives our businesses a real boost, helping them to put on special screenings, keep staff in work and create the kind of atmosphere you only get when people watch football together."
The decision comes on top of earlier changes which already let pubs stay open later for other World Cup knockout fixtures.
The Government used powers reserved for events of “exceptional national significance” to temporarily extend licensing hours.
Councillor Shabina Qayyum, leader of Peterborough City Council, said the announcement recognised the impact of football on communities and businesses.
Cllr Qayyum said: "We warmly welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement allowing pubs to open until 5am this Monday for England’s match a fantastic move that recognises just how much this tournament means to fans and our local hospitality industry.
"Here in Peterborough, we’ve already been leading the way: we’ve lit the city centre in striking red and white, creating a vibrant, united atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
"Local venues have excelled too.
"Charters, The Willow Cafe and the Old Station Quarter have all hosted hugely successful outdoor screenings, attracting large, happy crowds with a brilliant, safe atmosphere.
"The games have been a resounding success so far, bringing our community together in style."
Pubs had already been permitted to open until 2am for some earlier late kick-off matches, with councils, the police and venue operators gearing up to make sure the night runs smoothly.
Mr Pakes said: "I want everyone who heads into town on Sunday night to have a brilliant time, but also to celebrate responsibly, looking out for friends, respecting our city centre and supporting the staff who will be working hard through the night.
"If we get this right, it will be a great night of football and a reminder of how sport can bring communities like ours together."
