An amber heat-health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency which will affect Cambridgeshire this week.

The warning covers the East of England and is in effect from 9am on Wednesday, July 29, until 9am on Thursday, July 30.

The heat-health alert comes just a few weeks after another amber warning in the region, which was in place between July 8 and July 12.

Authorities say high temperatures could pose health risks, especially for older adults and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

The alert warns that significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures.

It also highlights the risk of increased deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over, as well as rising pressure on health services.

Other concerns include overheating in indoor environments, medicine management difficulties, and heat-related disruptions for staff and transport.

Officials have also raised the possibility of power demand exceeding capacity and travel delays.

Water-related incidents, including cold-water shock and drowning, may increase during the alert period.

It comes after months of hot and dry weather in Cambridgeshire which has seen a hosepipe ban implemented by multiple water companies.

Met Office data also shows the county has recorded 30 consecutive days without rain, despite this summer not breaking records for low rainfall.
