Police have made an arrest after a crash involving two lorries on the A1 northbound this morning (July 28).
Officers were called to the scene at 2.49am following reports of a crash between two Scania HGVs near Stibbington.
A 43-year-old man from Cleveland, was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
The other driver, a 50-year-old man from Great Barr, Birmingham, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the drug-drive limit, and possession of cannabis.
Police confirm he remains in police custody.
Officers are now urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it, to come forward.
Those with information are asked to contact police via the force website, quoting Operation Oystercatcher or call 101.
The collision has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IPOC) by the force’s Professional Standards Department in relation to an earlier incident involving one of the vehicles.
