Metal detector enthusiasts are being reminded that permission is required before exploring land.
Peterborough City Council has issued a warning that metal detecting is strictly prohibited on all council-owned sites.
Councillor Christian Hogg, cabinet member for regulatory services and enforcement, said: "Residents who enjoy metal detecting should only do so on their own property or with permission from the relevant private landowner.
"The council does not grant consent for metal detecting on its land, so we remind everyone to always check before you detect."
Metal detecting without the landowner’s approval can constitute trespassing, and removing treasure or cultural/historical items can also class as theft.
The council encourages detectorists to verify site ownership before starting any activity, and offers a contact email for property enquiries.
