A man who assaulted his estranged wife in an "abhorrent" attack has been jailed for more than four years.
Tom Brown, 46, attacked the victim during a row that erupted over the absence of instant noodles at a home in Woodditton, near Newmarket, on January 4.
Despite being separated from his wife, Brown was still living at her property at the time of the incident.
The argument began in the kitchen before Brown left the house, returning about 30 minutes later.
He became angry with his former partner when he discovered there were no instant noodles in the home.
Brown went upstairs, but he came back down shortly after and the confrontation escalated.
The victim left the kitchen, but Brown followed, tackled her to the ground, and pinned her down so she could not breathe.
The victim managed to escape and fled to a neighbour’s house.
Brown followed her, shouting outside until police arrived and arrested him.
He later tried to kick an officer in the head while being taken out of a police van at Parkside Police Station.
DC Jack Sillince, who investigated the case, said: "Brown’s attack on his wife was abhorrent and he was incredibly hostile to police who came to intervene.
"We wouldn’t have managed to secure this conviction without the support of the victim.
"The judge noted how little remorse Brown had shown and the level of arrogance he displayed throughout the whole process by blaming the victim.”
Brown, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at the start of his trial to two counts of actual bodily harm and one count of common assault of an emergency worker.
He denied two counts of intentional strangulation which will remain on file.
Brown was jailed for four years and eight months at Cambridge Crown Court on August 21 and handed a 15-year restraining order against the victim.
