Crews rush to fire at Hampton Nature Reserve Peterborough

The fire service was called at 3.48pm to a blaze at Hampton Nature Reserve, Natures Way, Hampton, near Peterborough.

Crews from stations across Cambridgeshire attended, including Dogsthorpe, Yaxley, Stanground, Huntingdon, March, Chatteris, Gamlingay, St Neots and Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade.

A specialist 4x4 vehicle was also called out, and a farmer helped firefighters tackle the blaze with a water bowser.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement yesterday: "Smoke may be affecting the Fletton Parkway and neighbouring houses, so motorists should drive past the fire with caution and residents should keep doors and windows closed if affected by the smoke."

By 7.30pm, the incident was under control and crews were scaling back.
